ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES
Manufacturing and transportation are important in Atlanta area, more north you find tourism, forestry, and farming become important. Farther up north mining is more prominent then dairy farming. In New England the mining turns from coal to rocks, as well as the farms become smaller and the dairy farms come less and less because of the climate difference. Tourism is only popular in summer, winter, and the fall leaf season. Forestry is the most prominent industry in the Appalachian region. The Appalachian regions’ economy is extremely dependent on mining, forestry, agriculture, chemical industries, and the heavy industry, and in later years has also seen a high dependency on a variety of manufacturing and service industries.

-Gemstones have been found in much of the Appalachian region, and there are places within the Appalachians where you can still go and dig them up.
-The Appalachian Mountains are such an ancient mountain range that it has at least one river that flows across it; something that is impossible with newer and higher mountain ranges such as the Rocky Mountains or the Andes.
